| Abstract | Though developed specifically for Minnesota parents, parents in other states will also receive helpful information from this booklet on early intervention programs for children with disabilities. Topics covered include: (1) qualifications for admission to early intervention services; (2) legal rights of children with disabilities; (3) the individual family service plan (IFSP); (4) types of services available; (5) making a referral; (6) assessment of disabilities; (7) the IFSP team; (8) transition planning; (9) procedural safeguards; (8) resolving differences with service coordinators and school personnel; (9) due process; (10) appeals; and (11) interagency collaboration. The book also contains lists of printed resources, acronyms parents may need to know, and relevant terms. A list of suggested reading for parents and the actual Minnesota legislative language governing early childhood education for children with disabilities is included. A list of all the federally funded parent training and information centers is included in the appendix. (CR) |
